The Rubik's Cube was the Best Selling Toy in the 80s

Review by C. Combs

Remember the Rubik's Cube?
I grew up when this amazing brain teaser came out and it was something I couldn't put down.
Apparently, a lot of peope felt the same way as this toy became the best-selling puzzle in history and still remains on store shelves today.
The Rubik's Cube made it's debut in 1980 and it has been said that some three hundred million were sold worldwide!

Rubik's Cube Phenomenon

So what made this Magic Cube such a hit?
Was it the colors or the unique turning action, or was it a break from the old traditional board games?
It's hard to say, but it was a fact that every American household in the early eighties had one.
No longer were kids hanging from the monkey bars on recess... no they were huddled together solving the Rubik's Cube.
Not only was the Cube a hit with the kids, parents and elders had a thirst for solving this puzzle too.
It's fair to say that the Rubik's Cube became an obsession for some... especially mathemeticians and the like.
Books and even TV shows provided solutions to the Cube... this was getting serious.
Serious or not serious, the Rubik's Cube to this day is a brain teaser everyone should try and it makes an excellent gift...
Especially for someone who grew up in the 80s!
